Terry Parker - Integrative Counsellor / Psychotherapist

“My work supports people to think differently around problems in their lives and facilitates deeper conversations and self-awareness. By using a collaborative and open process, something previously unseen or un-articulated can take form and become visible. My aim is to assist people to understand how past experiences and current behaviour may be linked and to provide a safe space to explore thoughts and feelings about oneself and relationships. This can lead to a more creative understanding of a situation and promote readiness to change where needed.”

Terry has many years experience working with Children, Young people, Parents, Individuals and Couples therapeutically. Terry uses a broad range of skills including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic and Systemic Theories, alongside Narrative and Creative Expression. This integrated approach places the client at the centre and facilitates Talking, Listening and Connecting.

Terry’s calm and non judgmental manner enables her to build the trusting relationships necessary for working through difficult experiences.

Parenting support:

Terry has had an instrumental role in establishing Family Support services throughout Essex, both within a group context and individual support/coaching for the specific family needs. Family Mediation sessions from a Systemic perspective, aim to build relationships & communication skills and/or create a space for the family to safely bring forth rules and boundaries which are agreed together.

Parents and carers know that children can have a number of emotional issues which they usually work through by themselves. However, sometimes something can happen in a child's life that they find difficult to cope with; difficulties such as bullying, school attendance, bereavement or parent separation can leave the family and children feeling desperately low and angry. At these times they may need extra support. Terry helps to create a space for the family to open up and speak without feeling guilty or embarrassed.

Terry works within the guidelines for ethical practice and equal opportunities as recommended by The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Terry is fully insured and holds a current CRB check.
