"Supporting young people and families in Southend and Essex"

Martyn Brown MBPsS

Martyn Brown MBPsS

Neuro-diversity & ASD Consultant

“It’s okay to not be okay”

Martyn has a wide range of experience in supporting individuals of all ages who have or are affected by neurodiverse disabilities. He provides consultancy work within a range of external organisations including colleges, councils and Universities.

Having graduated with a degree in Applied Psychology and Sociology in 2016 from the University of Brighton and currently studying for a Postgraduate Certificate in Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome, Martyn specialises in working with young people and families who battle with mental disorders and learning difficulties.

Alongside his work at ASC, Martyn has a full time post with the National Autistic Society as Student Support Manager for London. He provides 1:1 mentoring support for people on the Autistic Spectrum studying across London and co-ordinates a range of projects including ‘supported employment’ for young people with disabilities.

Outside of his professional work, Martyn spent a year serving on the National Union of Students’ Disabled Students Committee and found how limiting society can be for young people who have hidden and neurodiverse disabilities. As a dancer Martyn believes that the creative arts can serve as a medium for expression for young people.

“Having suffered from mental illness and being on the Autistic Spectrum myself both as a child and now as an adult, I am more than aware of the issues that young people in that position today face in all forms of life. As such, I am not only able to bring a professional angle to my work but also a personal one.”

At ASC, Martyn is a coach, mentor, trainer and consultant rather than a counsellor. He provides a person centred and individually tailored service, specialising in family support, social groups and training. As an advocate of an integrative mixed methods approach of support he works alongside other professionals in all areas of support/therapy/treatment in order to give a holistic overview, enabling the best outcome for any person.
